Your first week on Nerve

A sequenced path from an empty property to a first check-in and a closed night — in the order that avoids re-doing work.

Who this is for: Owner — most of these steps need Owner-level permissions, and the ones that do not are named as you reach them.

By the end of this you have a property that sells, checks guests in, charges them and closes its day. Each step names the page that documents it; what this page adds is the order, and why it is that order.

It is a week rather than an afternoon because two of these steps involve other people.

Day one — get oriented#

  1. Sign in and find your way around — read the sidebar and your Dashboard before changing anything. The permissions list on the Dashboard is the reference you will keep coming back to.
  2. Workspaces, organisations and properties — confirm which property you are actually configuring. Every setting below is per property.

Day one — set the property up#

  1. Create the property and set its profile, under Settings → Hotel. Set the time zone and currency now: both are awkward to change once there are postings against them.

  2. Enable the apps this property will use, under Settings → Hotel. Do it before inviting anyone. App enablement is a feature gate as well as a licence — invite first and your new manager signs in to a sidebar with holes in it, which reads as a broken account rather than a pending setting. See why your menu differs from a colleague's.

  3. Set the house terminology, under Settings → Terminology — before anyone is trained on the default words. Changing vocabulary later is not destructive, but it does mean re-teaching.

  4. Decide the readiness policy, under Settings → Hotel. Whether check-in requires a ready room. Decide it before the first arrival, not during one: the answer changes what your desk staff do at the counter, and the override is deliberately visible. See readiness and the check-in gate.

Day two — build what you sell#

  1. Create the rooms, then compose any that contain each other — rooms and units. Availability is computed from rooms, so nothing below has anything to attach to until this exists. Compose the villas now rather than after they have been sold twice.

  2. Set the ratesroom categories and rate plans. A property with rooms but no rates can be assigned but not sold. Set the derived plans up as derived rather than as independent numbers; it is the difference between one price change and four.

  3. Set the distribution profiledistribution settings. In particular the price guards, before anything automated can reach a channel.

  4. Set the stay-time policiesstay-time policies. At minimum a hotel default with a realistic turnaround, so the rack stops proposing same-day back-to-backs housekeeping cannot deliver.

Day three — bring the team in#

  1. Invite the team and assign rolesroles and what each one can do, and choosing a role. Now that the sidebar they will see is the one you intend.

On staging no invitation e-mail is sent. The Members screen shows the accept link once, immediately after you create the invite — copy it then.

  2. Walk the desk through the two flows they will use every shiftcheck a guest in and check a guest out. Both have a gate in them, and both gates are better met in training than at the counter.

Day four — connect the outside world#

  1. Write the property contentproperty content. Do it before connecting a channel: the description, photos and policies are what the channel will publish, and the policy fields are what a channel will hold you to.

  2. Connect a channel, if you sell through oneconnecting a channel. Last of the commercial steps, because a channel pushing availability at a property with no rates has nothing to push. Expect this to take longer than everything above it combined: connect, map every room and rate, then certify.

  3. Push your first ARI change and watch it landavailability and ARI distribution. Do not take the connection on trust; watch a delivery reach delivered once, so you know what healthy looks like.

Day five — run a day end to end#

  1. Take a booking and check it increate a reservation, assign it a room, check the guest in.
  2. Move the room through housekeepingthe room status board. Watch the arrivals list update without a refresh; that is the loop your desk and floors will run on.
  3. Charge it and settle itfolios, payments, check a guest out.
  4. Run the night audit in Accounting, and confirm the postings reached the ledger.

You're done when…#

A reservation on the new property can be created, assigned a room, checked in, charged, and checked out to a zero balance — and the resulting postings appear on the ledger after the night audit.

If you can do that once, you can do it every day.

What's next#
