Take a room out of order

Block a room for maintenance, read every block and timed job in one window, and clear it when the work is done.

Who this is for: Front Desk, Manager, Owner — requires frontdesk.room.block or engineering.maintenance.manage. Where: Engineering → Room Maintenance

Taking a room off the market is maintenance work, not desk work, so it has its own screen. Engineering → Room Maintenance is where a room goes out of order, where every block and every timed job is listed, and where a block is cleared once the work is finished.

The rack still shows blocks — a blocked room is exactly the thing an agent must not sell — but it no longer creates them. See the room rack.

Read the worklist#

Set the window with the From and To dates at the top. Everything below is what falls inside it.

Engineering → Room Maintenance: a From/To window, a Block a room button, an Out of order / service table listing room, type, dates, reason and a Clear action, and a Timed work panel below it

One window, two grains. Whole-day blocks sit in the top table; work measured in hours sits underneath.

Out of order / service is the day-grain list: one row per block, with the room, the kind of block, the dates it covers and the reason someone typed when they made it.

Timed work is the hour-grain list: engineering and housekeeping jobs that occupy a room for part of a day rather than the whole of it. These are created by the work that schedules them, not from this screen.

Block a room#

  1. Select Block a room.
  2. Set the From and To dates.
  3. Choose the room. Only rooms that are free across the whole range are offered, so anything you can pick is a block that will be accepted.
  4. Choose Out of order or Out of service.
  5. Type the reason. It is what the next person reads on the rack, so write it for them.
  6. Select Block a room.

The Block a room dialog: From and To dates, a room selector listing free rooms, a Type of Out of order, and a Reason field reading

The room list is already filtered to what is free for those dates — the dialog cannot offer you a block that would collide with a stay.

Out of order is the stronger of the two: the room is not habitable and should not count as sellable inventory. Out of service takes it off the market without declaring it broken — a room held for a long-stay refit, a show room, a unit kept back for staff.

What a block does#

A blocked room is out of availability for those dates. It cannot be sold, and it cannot be assigned into: a drag onto it on the rack is refused, and it does not appear in the assignment picker or in auto-assign's suggestions.

On the rack the block renders as a tinted cell marked OOO or OOS, with the reason on hover.

The same block, seen from the desk. The rack reads it; Room Maintenance owns it.

Catatan

A block is not a housekeeping status. Blocking takes a room off the market for a date range; the room status board says whether a room is clean enough to hand over today. A room can be blocked and clean, or unblocked and dirty.

Clear a block#

Select Clear on the row. The room returns to availability for those dates immediately — it can be sold and assigned again from that moment.

Clear a block when the work is done, not when it was scheduled to be done. A room that is still open on the rack because nobody cleared its block is inventory the house is not selling.

Who can reach this screen#

Room Maintenance appears for anyone who can already block a room (frontdesk.room.block) or who holds the engineering permission (engineering.maintenance.manage). Nobody lost an action when blocking moved off the rack: if you could block a room before, you can still block one, in its new home.

The screen also needs the Engineering app switched on for the property — see enabling apps for a property.
