Shift definitions & variance

Name an outlet's expected work periods so a drawer opens against one, and see cash variance rolled up per shift.

Who this is for: Owner, Manager — reading needs pos.catalog.read; creating or editing needs pos.catalog.manage. The variance report needs pos.cashier.session, the same permission that opens and closes a drawer. Where: Settings → Shifts

A cashier session records what actually happened at a drawer; a shift definition names what is supposed to happen — breakfast, lunch, dinner, late — so a session can be opened against one and cash variance reported per shift instead of only per ad-hoc session.

Create a shift#

  1. Select the outlet.
  2. Select New shift.
  3. Name it, and set its expected start and end time.
  4. Set the expected float — the cash a drawer opening against this shift should start with.
  5. Select New shift.

注意

The expected float is a reference figure, not an enforced one. Opening a drawer against a shift on Point of Sale → Settlement does not pre-fill or check the opening float against it — the cashier still types the actual amount they counted into the drawer. It exists so a manager has something to compare against when reading the variance report below.

A shift can be deactivated from its edit form; a deactivated shift stays selectable on past sessions and the variance report, it just drops out of the picker a cashier sees when opening a new drawer.

Reading the variance report#

The report at the bottom of this screen aggregates over/short across the outlet's closed cashier sessions, grouped by the shift each one was opened against. A group with no shift name is every session opened ad-hoc, with no shift picked at all.

Each row shows the session count, the total over/short across all of them, and the average per session — a shift that is reliably a little short every day reads very differently from one that is right on average but swings wildly, and this is the screen that tells them apart.
