House terminology

Override Nerve's hospitality vocabulary with the words your house actually uses, per language — and what that costs when you read the documentation.

Every house has its own words. A villa resort does not have rooms, a serviced-apartment operator does not have guests in quite the way a hotel does, and a hostel calls a folio something else entirely. This screen lets you say so, and the product uses your words everywhere afterwards.

An override is per language, so a house running English and Bahasa Indonesia sets each independently.

Understand the scope you are editing#

The editor works at one of two levels, and the banner at the top of the page tells you which:

Active context What you are editing
A property is selected That property's vocabulary
No property is selected The organisation's vocabulary, inherited by every property

A property-level override wins over an organisation-level one. Set the house style at the organisation, and only override at a property that genuinely differs.

Override a term#

  1. Open Settings → Terminology.
  2. Find the term. Each row shows the default wording, its key, and one column per language.
  3. Type your replacement into the column for that language.
  4. Select Save.

The faded text in an empty field is the built-in wording for that language — what the product will keep saying if you leave the field alone.

Clear an override#

  1. Empty the field.
  2. Select Save.

An empty field is not "blank" — it is no override, and the term falls back to the built-in wording. There is no way to make a term render as nothing.

The resolution order#

For any term, in any language:

  1. Your house's override, if one exists.
  2. The built-in wording for that language.
  3. The term's key, as a last resort — which you should never see.

Warning

This documentation uses the default terminology. If your house has renamed things, the words on these pages will not match the words on your screen. The permission strings, routes and behaviour are unaffected — only the labels move. It is worth telling new staff which vocabulary they are reading in.

Tip

Rename early, and rename few. Every renamed term is a term that no longer matches the documentation, a support conversation, or the person you hired from the hotel down the road. Change the handful your house genuinely says differently and leave the rest.
